[/caption]Buffalo Bill’s Wild West was the crescendo of his professional life. Prior, he had been a minor celebrity, but the show made him a world-renowned figure, who toured throughout the United States and Europe many times. Buffalo Bill’s innovations in show operations were studied and copied by many during his time.   But legend has Buffalo Bill riding out in front of the herd to divert them and kill the leaders. Righto. (I should concede here that Cody was a skilled horseman, otherwise he could not have pulled off his Wild West shows.) The real legend behind Buffalo Bill is a journalist and publicist named Ned Buntline. Even Wikipedia, the source of all.

The Wild West has made legends out of many men and women through the embellishment of their stories, but it was Buffalo Bill Cody who truly brought the Wild West to life and provided the images that people still associate with the 19th century West today. Cody, as Told by Himself by William F. Cody is pretty much what I thought it would be. Above all was Buffalo Bill a showman and this autobiography is tailored for an audience thirsting for the adventures of the now obsolete Wild West/5.

Another wrote, “Buffalo Bill the character was first a fiction created to symbolize the ‘Wild West.'” Pony Express rider, Army scout, and buffalo hunter, William Frederick Cody () came to embody the spirit of the West as the living legend called Buffalo Bill.

The most famous American of the 20th century, William Frederick “Buffalo Bill” Cody played too many roles in his long and blessed life. He was an American scout, soldier, hunter, and an entertainer. His class and talent were unmatchable during his time.
