Also, government is needed to involve computer scientists with a vision for the future in the support of those whose research will serve future needs. Government and infrastructure are, in this way, interrelated. Infrastructure is something that forms a foundation to build on. It is that which the rest of the structure is built upon. OTTAWA – Canada’s universities welcome today’s launch of the federal government’s new Post-Secondary Institutions Strategic Investment Fund (SIF), which will provide $2 billion over three years to support excellence in research, innovation and environmental sustainability at campuses across Canada. “Investment in postsecondary infrastructure is an‎ investment in .

Congress. House. Committee on Science and Technology. Each university has unique needs and long-term objectives, and is at a unique stage of its own physical and intellec- tual development. Estimates of the cost of renovating and modern- izing the university research infrastructure ranges from about $5 billion to over $20 billion in a period of around 5 years.

This chapter explores the federal government's contributions to the research infrastructure, examining the government's support for research, human resources, and research equipment. Although computing technology draws on research in a number of academic disciplines—from computer science, electrical engineering, mathematics, materials science and engineering.

Funding a Revolution examines the history of computing since World War II to elucidate the federal government's role in funding computing research, supporting the education of computer scientists and engineers, and equipping university research labs.

It reviews the economic rationale for government support of research, characterizes federal support for computing research, and summarizes key historical advances in which government-sponsored research. While federal, state, and local governments have spent nominally more on infrastructure in recent years, the rising cost of materials has reduced their real spending power.

As a result, real infrastructure spending nationally has fallen over the past decade, from $ billion in to $ billion in The research infrastructures described in the university’s Research Infrastructure Programme are scientifically significant and enable a high standard of research at the university.

The Research Infrastructure Programme does not take a stand on the acquisition, management, use or administration of individual pieces of equipment. Research infrastructure encompasses facilities and other resources that are available for research purposes and can be used by several research groups.

Examples of this are expensive equipment, certain organisations or extensive computer networks that are used nationally or internationally. At the University of California -- like many other public universities -- federal funds are our single most important source of support for research.

In its latest stimulus package, Congress wisely included some $ billion for federal research agencies to support the rapid development of diagnostics, treatments and vaccines for coronavirus.

Contract research is required to provide that. Naturally, federal ministries or state (Länder) authorities primarily grant research contracts to the government’s own research institutions; however, other research institutions can also be commissioned with R&D projects.

The Federal Government spends billion euros a year on R&D. Of this. To be productive, high-quality scientific research requires a sophisticated infrastructure. This is especially true for research in which multiple fields, disciplines, methodologies, and levels of analysis are required to fully address key questions.

Research on child abuse and neglect is especially complex, involving diverse independent service systems, multiple professions, Author: Anne C. Petersen, Joshua Joseph, Monica Feit, Youth Board on Children, Families.

The federal government has fostered a unique partnership with America’s preeminent research universities for the last 70 years. This extraordinary partnership has resulted in astounding leaps in technological innovation, improved public health and well-being, sustained a dynamic American economy, and has helped build an unmatched military superiority.

Higher education, federal government ‘intimately connected’ have become the hallmark of the American research university. book will look at the changing research economy and. As is generally the case across major research universities, federal funds account for most of the R&D spending in all but three of the 20 universities on this list.

The reliance on federal funding for university R&D is declining, however.
